Karis sets record straight

No comments posted.

To the editor:

It is with a great deal of reluctance that I write this, but when my name appears numerous times in a public letter with untruths, I must respond.

For the record, I am not a retired teacher. I do not have a retired teacher’s retirement account. And not one issue has come before the board that I had a vested interest in.

For the record, I believe Jack Lewis has, in one year, done an outstanding job in pointing out some areas we need improving on. He has commended the public and employees in the many areas we are doing well in.

Why all the negative opinions? Why not write about all the good in our school district, the community, the world? Oh, that does not make interesting headlines. Untruths keep getting better from person to person; truths die with the first person to hear it.

My only vested interest in school board decisions are that young people, including my grandchildren, get as good an education as my eight children did in the Menomonie school system. They will develop into outstanding citizens of whatever community they choose. I plead guilty!

There is much more that should be said about the district’s financial picture, but I do have to work today — and I am pushing a 3 p.m. deadline.

Other than confidential information, I am willing to discuss school issues with anyone that is interested.

Bud Karis

Menomonie School Board member
