Rain that fell during the early morning Tuesday in Menomonie and surrounding country did much to revive crops that were beginning to suffer from a long-continued drought. While some sections of Dunn County had been refreshed by frequent and previous moisture, the rainfall between the hours of 5 and 8 Tuesday was the first registered in the vicinity of Menomonie for more than a month. The rain came in time to save the corn. Another week and the corn crop would have been almost an utter failure in many parts of the county. As it is, the hot, dry spell burnt up the small grain, especially south and east of Menomonie. Rye, however, came through well matured and the rye yield can be considered satisfactory in the county. Generally speaking, grain yields in the county cannot be considered much more than a 50 percent crop...

A new clothing and gents’ furnishing store will be added to the list of Menomonie’s trading places in the near future and from every indication the new business will be a permanent and prosperous one. The members of the orchestra are in Chetek this week playing an engagement at the chautauqua. The Chetek Chautauqua Association has been advertising the Memorial Orchestra as one of its leading entertainment features. The Memorials are becoming as popular away from home as they are here.
