UW System Board of Regents approves sabbaticals for eight University of Wisconsin-Stout faculty members in the 2007-08 academic year. Those on leave for the first semester are Desiree Budd, psychology; Brian Fitch, English and philosophy; and Mingshen Wu, mathematics, statistics and computer science. Ken Welty, education, was awarded a second semester sabbatical. Taking a full year sabbatical will be Rajiv Asthana, engineering and technology; Susan Eberhard, rehabilitation and counseling; Mahshid Jalilvand, social science; and Geoffrey Wheeler, art and design. Regents grant sabbaticals to recognize and enhance teaching efforts and excellence. Dunn County supervisors by 25 to 2 vote approve a three-year work agreement between Dunn County and the Dunn County Joint Council of Unions. The agreement impacts some 350 employees. Supervisors Stanley Anderson and Francis Eiseth cast the “no” votes while supervisors Robert Stanton and Marvin Saxton were absent. According to John C. Krizek, county administrator, employees over the three year period will receive an approximate 14 percent ($1.43 per hour) wage hike: 1.5 percent in 1983, six percent in 1984, and 6.25 in 1985. The agreement says the county will pay dental insurance premiums retroactive to Jan. 1, 1983. Additionally, retroactive to Jan. 1, the county will pay 100 percent of the single plan health insurance premium and 95 percent of the family plan premium...

The Elk Mound and Connorsville Cooperative Creamery associations made 852,195 pounds of butter during 1932, it is revealed by adding the output of the two as given in the separate annual reports. A total of 525,711 pounds of butter was made at Elk Mound and 356,484 at Connorsville. The Elk Mound plant had a net profit of $2,132.47 for the year. A gain of 18,652 pounds of butter over that of 1931 is reported by the Connorsville creamery for 1932. Almost all of the butter made there is shipped to Jersey City, N.J. Highest paid patrons are F. C. Sutliff, John P. Dale, T. E. French, Sam P. Kraft, W. A. Schlough and William Owen. Receipts for 1932 totaled $66,962 against $63,629 in disbursements. The creamery has 149 patrons...

Home town folks who saw Stevens Point Normal’s quint perform were surprised to see such a powerful and fast machine as the visitors presented. With 12 players seeing action, the visitors rolled to an easy 47 to 31 win... John E. Duesing, representative of the Travelers Insurance Co. in Menomonie, elected president of the Travelers “Redskins” organization. This honor came to him at a meeting of Travelers agents from Wisconsin and Minnesota in St. Paul... Two packages of Chesterfield “They Satisfy” cigarettes are 25 cents at Red Owl Food Store; sugar-cured bacon squares are six cents a pound; three oval cans of Van Camp’s California sardines are 25 cents... Large audiences enjoyed the six plays produced in the Northwestern Wisconsin Dramatic Festival at the Memorial auditorium. A dramatic specialist from the University of Wisconsin acted as judge. The winner was not announced but will be given later. Represented in the contest were Clark, Pierce, Sawyer, Pepin, Douglas and Dunn counties.

The town clock in the manual training tower is not losing any of it simple beauty, but its usefulness is becoming questionable. A timepiece is of little value that does not keep the correct hour to the exact minute. The four-faced hand-swept dial is trying to cheat Father Time and is deceiving only the trusting public. Missing a train or an appointment may be an important event in a man’s life, but the tardy clock is merciless. The train may be speeding around the curve as you get to the top of the depot hill. When you turn back the hands seem to mock. They feature all the virtuous and time-honored principles of punctuality and make excitable men say things that are not recognized in the moral code...
Fred L. French, age 49, died suddenly last night at his home in this city. The sudden and unexpected summons comes as a shock to his many friends, some of whom who were not aware that he had been ill. Mr. French was born in Menomonie and had always made this city his home. For a quarter of a century he was bookkeeper and cashier of the Bank of Menomonie, retiring from active business in June 1906. He entered the banking business in 1880 with his father, S. B. French. The bank later came into the possession of A.Tainter & Son, and he became assistant cashier... The second of the series of card and dancing parties of the Commercial Club at the gymnasium was most enjoyable for the large number present...

Plans are under way for a Five-Sunday baseball league for 1908 and Menomonie is one of the teams in the league. Manager Stori and Irving Gray of the Blue Caps have already begun to get other cities interested in the plan and it is striking favor. The proposed league will include the teams of Hudson, River Falls, Menomonie, Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls — all strong diamond aggregations and with particularly bright prospects for the coming season.
